Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir
and its very heart; The sheer beauty and grandeur of the Kashmir
Valley cannot be captured in plain words. Set at the foot of
the awesome Himalayas, with the splendid Jhelum river meandering
through it, this land of raw natural magnificence has enticed
people from all over the world, for centuries.
Mughal Gardens, These gardens were laid out by the Mughal emperors,
hence the name. It was a favourite of the Mughal emperors. Laid
out for their pleasure by the Mughal emperors, these gardens
create a magical enchantment all their own.
Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara, The sixth guru of Sikhism travelled
through Kashmir, stopping to preach occasionally and a gurudwara
has been built at the exact site of each of these halts. The
most important one being Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara near the
Kathi Darwaza in Rainawari.
Sharika Devi Temple, To the west of the city is the hill
of Hari Parbat, on which is the temple of Sharika Devi, believed
to be a form of Durga Mata or Shakti. The hill is considered
sacred to the Hindus.
Access by Air:
Indian Airlines has regular flights from Srinagar to Ahmedabad,
Amritsar, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Delhi, Jammu and Leh.
Access by Rail:
The nearest railhead is Jammu Tawi, which is connected to
all parts of the country by Express trains.
Access by Road:
Srinagar, located on the National Highway 1A, is connected
by a network of roads to Jammu, Leh, Kargil, Gulmarg, Manasbal,
Pahalgam, Delhi, Sonmarg and Pathankot.
